In this glossary, you will find answers to questions such as what green electricity means or what heat sources are and an explanation of the most frequently used concepts around sustainability and energy.
Biogas is often produced from landfill, garden, fruit, and vegetable waste, or animal residues. Biogas is purified, dried, and brought to the same quality as natural gas. After these operations, it is called ‚green gas‘ and is an excellent sustainable alternative to fossil natural gas.
‚Biodegradable‘ means that fungi and bacteria can break something down naturally. Biomass is the biodegradable part of products, waste, and residues of natural products.
From the Carbon factor, you can read how much CO2 is emitted when producing energy. The carbon factor shows the ‚CO2 intensity‘ of the electricity produced.
We must extract CO2 from the air to combat global warming. We try to ‚offset‘ the current inevitable CO2 emissions. This is done through various efforts to remove CO2 from the air. We measure this compensation utilizing the so-called ‚CO2 credits‘. One CO2 credit stands for removing one ton of CO2 from the air. When we remove as much as we emit, we achieve ‚CO2 neutrality‘.
By sustainable gases, we mean green gas and green hydrogen.
A sustainable heat source is a source from which the residual heat generated during a business process can be used.
The gas mixture based on ‚biogenic residual flows‘, which falls under ‚biomass‘, is called green gas. Green gas is made by upgrading biogas until it has the same qualities as natural gas.
Renewable and sustainable electricity – or green electricity – is the supply of electricity for which a Guarantee of Origin for electricity is written off.
Hydrogen is an energy carrier used for heating, such as steam and hot water. Hydrogen is made from water using electricity, and we call it green hydrogen if you use green electricity to generate hydrogen.
Renewable energy sources include wind energy, solar energy, ambient energy, tidal energy, wave energy, etc. Renewable energy sources are sources that are replenished by nature itself.
Climate neutrality is a term that indicates that greenhouse gas emissions throughout a company’s chain do not contribute to climate change.
Residual heat is heat created as a ‚by-product‘ in business processes.
